How to Grow Apocalypse Scorpion

Overview

The Apocalypse Scorpion (Capsicum chinense) is a fascinating pepper variety known for its bubbly, thin skin and incredibly hot flavor. With a Scoville Heat Unit (SHU) rating of up to 1.5 million, this pepper packs an instant and overwhelming heat that can challenge even the most adventurous gardeners and chefs.

Growing Conditions

The Apocalypse Scorpion requires very specific growing conditions to thrive. Due to its long season needs, growing it outdoors in most climates may prove challenging. A greenhouse or indoor setup is ideal for cultivating this exotic pepper variety. Make sure your plants receive plenty of sunlight (at least 6-8 hours daily) and have a well-draining, nutrient-rich soil.

Planting & Care

Plant your Apocalypse Scorpion seeds about 1/4 inch deep in a rich, well-draining potting mix. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, as these peppers are sensitive to overwatering. As seedlings develop, gradually introduce them to fertilizer every two weeks or so. Be cautious of temperature fluctuations, as they can stress the plants and reduce fruit quality.

Common Problems

One common issue with growing Apocalypse Scorpions is the risk of fungal diseases due to overly damp conditions. To prevent this, ensure proper air circulation around your plants and avoid wetting the leaves when watering. Another problem could be extreme heat causing a bitter flavor in the peppers. Balance sunlight exposure with some shade to maintain sweetness.

Harvest or Enjoy

When the Apocalypse Scorpions turn bright yellow or orange and feel slightly soft to the touch, they are ready for harvest. Pick them at your earliest convenience to prevent overripening and maintain their fiery heat. Use these peppers sparingly in cooking, as even a tiny amount can create a very spicy dish! They pair excellently with creamy ingredients like yogurt or cheese to balance the heat.
