Myrciaria rupestris, also known as Cuban guavaberry or Myrtle strawberry, is a unique and fascinating plant native to west Cuba. In 2014, it was reclassified from two separate species (Plinia rubrinervis and Plinia rupestris) into one single species under the name Myrciaria rupestris. This plant belongs to the Myrtaceae family and is known for its beautiful appearance and unique properties.
Growing Conditions
Myrciaria rupestris thrives in tropical climates, making it an ideal choice for gardeners living in warmer regions. It prefers well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter and enjoys full sun exposure. The plant can tolerate a range of temperatures from 60°F to 85°F (16°C to 29°C), but the optimal temperature range for its growth is between 70°F and 80°F (21°C to 27°C).
Planting & Care
When planting Myrciaria rupestris, choose a location with at least six hours of direct sunlight per day. The soil should be well-draining and have a pH level between 5.5 and 6.5.
