Overview

Growing Conditions
Better Boys thrive in full sun and well-draining soil rich in organic matter. They prefer temperatures between 70-85°F during the day and above 55°F at night. These tomatoes are not too picky about pH levels but do best in slightly acidic to neutral soil, around 6.0-7.0.
Planting & Care
Plant Better Boy seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the last expected frost date. Transplant out when soil temps consistently reach 60°F. Water deeply and regularly to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Fertilize with compost or a balanced vegetable fertilizer every 3-4 weeks, especially if you notice slow growth.
Common Problems
Better Boys are relatively disease-resistant compared to other tomato varieties. However, they can still be prone to problems like blossom end rot and tomato hornworms. To prevent blossom end rot, ensure consistent soil moisture and supplement with calcium. For tomato hornworms, handpick them off or use a biological control like Bacillus thuringiensis.
Harvest or Enjoy
Harvest your Better Boys when they are uniformly red and slightly soft to the touch. They'll keep in the refrigerator for up to two weeks but taste best when eaten fresh. Try using them in salsas, salads, sandwiches, and more!
